Jacques Pépin might be synonymous with food for the educated palate, but at Thornes Marketplace Monday he was also providing his fans with food for the ears and for the soul. Pépin, whose cooking resume would fill a dozen menus, was in Northampton for a day-long event sponsored by WGBY, Public Television for Western Massachusetts. In the afternoon, more than a 100 people crowded into a tent outside Thornes to savor Pépin’s answers to a range of food questions and to buy his book, “Essential Pépin,” the latest of his 27 cookbooks.
